I was born in Somerset West Hospital. Growing up, I felt a bit like a yo-yo. Going from my parent’s home to my grandparents’ home and vice versa. I never knew my real granddad. My mom’s stepdad was passed off as my ‘real’ grandfather. I later learned the truth, but it was too late. When I was old enough to start making my own decisions, I learned that he passed away to get to know my biological grandfather. Till this day, I still feel like a part of me, is missing. I don’t know how I am.
With travelling between two homes, I never even knew my mom was pregnant with a sibling. I found out when I went home for the first time in a long time. She was 6 years old already. It was a very difficult situation. My sister felt threatened, because here an older guy walks in and she’s being told it’s her brother. We did not get along in the beginning. I think we both felt a bit awkward and we had to get used to each other.
After completing school, my parents felt like I had to go to college and study. I completed half of my studies and then dropped out. I wasn’t ready, but was forced to study. I think my parents really wanted me to study further, as I was the first in our family to finish school. After dropping out, I knew I had to get a job. I started working in a dairy production company. I worked there for 3 months. I did a few more odd jobs, short term. I just couldn’t find something that I was interested in and wanted to stay with for a longer period.
Living with my parents, I decided to leave my job and stay at home. I was at home for about 12 months, thinking about my future and what I would like to do. While at home, I did help my dad with his woodcutting business – every now and then. I guess it was my way of ‘paying rent’
A friend of mine, who I went to visit often, is in IT and has a real passion for it. He introduced me to IT again and this time, I knew that is what I wanted to do. I spoke to my parents and the very next day my mom started searching for a place for me to study at.
The student reviews and what they have achieved after studying at MasterGrade IT, is what pushed me to enroll at MasterGrade IT. I also love the atmosphere and space. When I go to MasterGrade IT to study, it’s a space where we are all like-minded and focusing on what’s important.
I’m excited to finish my studies and working in the industry.
